GrandCamp

GrandCamp is a unique, grand faith adventure for grandparents and their grade-school age grandchildren focused on leaving a faith-legacy for the next generations. Through purposeful activities that grandparents and grandchildren experience together, to discovering from God’s Word what it means to walk in the truth, to building a treasure chest of life-changing memories—all in an environment that invites having a pile of fun—this will be a time for building memories that will last a lifetime! We also offer a single day Grand Day Out event for churches, as well as our Do-It-Yourself Field Guide for grandparents who would like to do their own family GrandCamp.

Patience: A Birds’ Eye View

The birds outside my window keep jockeying for position on the tubular feeder that has room for two or three at a time to tug seeds through the fine mesh housing. Patience has its rewards. Perhaps, the biggest challenge to my patience is waiting as my teenage grandchild works – sometimes struggles – to overcome developmental hurdles. It’s difficult because my natural inclination is to swoop down and fix the problem the same way I did for him as a toddler. Things are different. Now that he’s dealing with rapid-fire hormones, his problems are more cerebral than physical.

Do It Yourself (DIY) GrandCamp

One doesn’t have to look at the calendar to know that summer is fast approaching. The length of our days and intensity of the sun have increased, resulting in higher temperatures than we experienced last month. Various shades of green signify new growth on the deciduous trees lining our neighborhoods, and depending on where you live, the hummingbirds have returned to their feeders.  With a renewed skip in their step, our grandchildren eagerly count down the days left in the current school year.

Our grandchildren’s summer vacation affords us the opportunity to spend increased, quality time with them. The question we have to ask ourselves: how will we spend the time?

The Need for Patient and Persistent Prayer

Many of us are familiar with the parable of the Friend at Midnight found in the eleventh chapter of Luke’s Gospel. The word parable means something laid alongside another. Jesus masterfully employs parables to teach and illustrate divine truths. A parable is a simple story with two levels of meaning. The first level is concrete and easy to understand. It contains a narrative with a familiar setting and engaging storyline. The next level, which can be more difficult to grasp, contains the underlying message. Comprehension of the second level depends on the heart of its listener.
