#1 of 7 Biblical Worldview Absolutes

“After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done…”(Judges 2:10).

Whether as a parent, a grandparent or a teacher, what we teach or fail to teach the next generations matters. The tragedy of Judges 2 is that within two generations, the truth about the Lord and all that He had done for Israel was forgotten. We may find that difficult to imagine, but not if you look at what’s going on in our own time.

Today, the false messages (outright lies) rooted in a worldview opposed to a biblical worldview are impressed upon our kids’ minds, often subtly, through the media, education, entertainment and new meanings of words. In other words, the world is actively teaching our kids lies in every way possible, but parents and grandparents are not so actively teaching the truth. The consequence is, as in Judges 2, a whole generation forsaking the Lord and, instead, following after the gods of the peoples around them.

If we want our grandchildren to grow up knowing Christ and following Him with all their hearts, it is vital that influential people in their lives tell the truth about who God is, the world we live in, and all that He has done and is still doing. The people in the best position to teach the truth are parents and grandparents, but we cannot teach what we do not know ourselves.

Worldview—what we believe about God and the world around us—shapes everything we do in life. Because this is so important, I want to repeat a series I did ten years ago as we move closer to the Advent/Christmas season. It is a series highlighting seven absolutes that define a biblical worldview.

These absolute truths are not of my devising. They are God’s truths given to us by God through His Word. They are good to review as we approach the holidays (Holy Days). These absolute truths explain the reason Christ, God in the flesh, came into this world. So, let’s jump into Absolute Truth #1…

God Is and Created All That Exists

“In the beginning God created…” (Genesis 1:1)

This is the foundational Reality for all that follows. What we believe, what our children and grandchildren believe, about God is critical to everything else we believe. God has revealed Himself to us through His creation and through His Word. He alone is the Creator of all that exists and so we worship Him as our Creator-Father. He created the entire universe, including this planet we live on and all that lives on it. He did not simply create and then walk away. He is intimately and compassionately engaged with His creation, and in particular with you and me—male and female—created in His image.

We sing a song from time to time in my church that powerfully expresses this reality. Many of you will be familiar with this song, including your grandchildren. If you can, sing it with them, and take a moment to reflect and meditate once again on the truth of the One who uniquely made you and me in His image. Thank Him for the amazing world in which we live. Worship Him in the splendor of His holiness.

God of Wonders

God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy.
The universe declares Your majesty,
You are holy, holy!  Lord of heaven and earth.
Lord of all creation
Of water, earth and sky.
The heavens are Your tabernacle,
Glory to the Lord on high!

Early in the morning I will celebrate the light.
When I stumble in the darkness,
I will call Your Name by night.
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy.
Precious Lord, reveal Your heart to me,
Father hold me, hold me.
The universe declares Your majesty,
You are holy, holy!
Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven and earth!
